Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

So. Good. We're from San Diego so saying that they serve some of the better fish tacos I have had is a bold statement. The beans and rice were also amazing. We loved the atmosphere and service. My young daughter is picky about Mexican food and she ate an entire chicken taco, all of her rice and beans, and the marinated carrots.

We've been in Red Lodge (from Chicago) for about a week and have eaten here 3x. The food is fantastic. My favorites on the menu are the shrimp and veggie taco, but everything is great. We've sampled all the tacos, the wet burrito, chile relleno, steak quesadilla, and the chips and salsa. The tacos are made with homemade corn tortillas. You'd be hard pressed to find a better taco anywhere. Definitely a must if you are in Red Lodge.

Great little taco place. I had the carne asada & al pastor tacos. The tacos are small but really tasty. Luckily I wasn't super hungry. At $3 per taco they're not cheap for their size, but I appreciate the quality of the food, so it was worth it.

Showed up with a large group so it was a little tight, but food and service were great. No complaints from any body in the group on the food.

Really! Anything less than five stars is a mistake. I only wish I had more time to sample the full menu. My two tacos -- Al Pastor and Rajas were sublime. Handmade corn tortillas were a delight. Three Mas Taco salsas -- roast tomato, tomatillo and jalapeno -- and Mas Taco "chips" were devoured. The side of house pickled carrots, onion and jalapeno equally consumed. Not a scrap left. Everything made from scratch. The mix of roasted poblano chilis and crema -- my taste buds were dancing. And the Al Pastor -- created from a "secret" recipe...YUM! Red Lodge is blessed to have this tiny powerhouse. One of the best places to eat in town. Eco-friendly "to go" boxes are important since the cafe seats only 12 inside. Lots of outdoor seating for the warm months but when winter arrives....you better rush for a stool at the counter. Housed in a circa 1930's Conoco gas station...it's bright and quietly chic. Excellent value!!!!

Mas Taco is sliding downhill fast. We've been getting takeout. They wrap the burritos (what we always get) in paper, then foil for reheating. Once reheated it's impossible to get the paper off. There's a solution for that, of course, but there was hardly any filling, and tortillas were mostly like warm, slippery dough. What's happening, Mas Taco. No more for me.

Unbelievable great Mexican food in Montana. For someone that resides in Texas most of the year my standards are high. A must when you are in Red Lodge.

Had some great flautas this afternoon! Would recommend this place to anyone looking for some great Mexican that is less greasy than most!!

On our trip to Red Lodge, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find quite wonderful Mexican food in Montana. Seriously, we ate here at least 7 times. I am no stranger to good mexican food being from Texas and frequenting local authentic Mexican food places. The empanadas and burritos were amazing. Ask for the green jalapeño cream sauce! You won't be disappointed. If I could give more stars I would! This restaurant is PERFECT!!!!! If you get the chance, talk to Mike the owner and the cashier Daylynn! They were really nice!

As far as tacos go, this is as good as it gets. The meat was perfectly seasoned and the avocado complemented it beautifully. The perfect bite of taco. Service was excellent.

Delicious! Would be a great option in a big city, but here it is in Red Lodge, lucky you. I always come here when I'm in town. Really fresh, and the owner is super nice.

Hand's down the BEST Mexican food ever! And this is coming from two So Cal ex-pats who have a lot of experience eating Mexican food :) this place is a real gem in Montana!

Disenchanted. We drove an hour to come here after a bike ride to find it temporarily closed, despite the Yelp profile saying they were open. We have enjoyed our food here before but find it EXTREMELY upsetting to come here to find it closed. Businesses should be diligent in keeping customers informed, especially on such a common site as Yelp. Note to the owners: update your profile when your closed. It's the least you can do for your (would be) customers.

Mas Taco is a solid choice for Red Lodge and the region and decent value overall. Good and fresh salsas. Minor quibbles are the seasoning/cooking is sometimes less than spot on flavorful and the menu selections are limited. Portions are on the small side, especially the tacos. The staff is courteous and that's a nice distinction.

Got the Camaron tacos, BEST tacos I've ever consumed in my life. Love the fresh ingredients & horchata!

So happy we stopped here. The man that helped us with our order was super friendly. Great quick lunch. I had three different tacos one shrimp, one pork and one al pastor. All were awesome, simple and fresh. A couple of others in our group had the empanadas and were really happy. Get an order of the chips and salsa - the chips are whole tortillas that you break up and go to town on their awesome salsa. We will definitely be back.

We came into Mas Taco on the July 3rd lunch rush with no expectations. The good was so tasty, and the menu was a creative kick of Mexican and Middle East that leaves your taste buds rushing with more. Moreover the chips are big, super size and my kids just took the praise of eating the biggest chip ever!

Excellent food in a very hip, rustic setting with both inside and outside seating. The vegetarian wet burrito with no dairy (vegan) is exceptionally good. If you are anywhere near Red Lodge, stop and enjoy!

It was a-ok. Very pretty (yet appropriately rustic) presentation, creative, affordable, and Mexican Cokes an option. The spicy sauce was spicy - yay! The meat was a bit dry, but the flavors totally made up for it.

"Best Mexican I've had in Montana! Rice and beans even vegetarian. Really fresh and great environment."
(5)Maggie T.
Visited over 4th of July. Wish we had Mas Taco in Livingston... Empanadas, tacos, salad, chips and salsa all delicious. And yes, all is handmade! Mexican Cokes and Tangerine Jarritos to top it off. Will drive to Red Lodge just for Mas Taco!

Out of this world homemade tortillas and salsas. Was blown away by how great this food was, then someone told me: the owner/chef is a former sous chef to Wolfgang Puck.

Leaving Yellowstone/Beartooth Highway we saw this place. So glad we stopped. The food was excellent and the staff was so nice! We got the pollo quesadilla and the special which was a carne asada chimichanga. Both were good but my fav was the quesadilla. Had to pay extra for chips (3 tostada "chips") and salsa but salsa was really good. Great flavors here!
(5)Red Lodge L.
It's ok. Wish they used fresh lettuce, pico de gallo on their items. Would make a world of difference. Salsa does not look fresh. A little overpriced. Employees don't look like they have the best hygiene practices.

I had very high hopes for this place. Sadly, they were squashed today. While I appreciate the effort, the results were mediocre. The excellent al pastor filling was the highlight of the meal. The disappointments included bitter salsa ranchera, woefully undercooked tortillas, gritty, chalky horchata, a stone-cold shrimp taco, and a wife with a very upset stomach, which is exceedingly rare.

This is Authentic Mexican at it's finest. Most everything is made from scratch. Fresh ingredients prepared for each item. The flavor is awesome.
(5)Richard L.
This place is the real deal -- from the handmade corn tortillas to the "al pastor" rotisserie -- truly on par with the best in SoCal.
(5)Wm S.
Really an "underground gourmet" find! Wonderful food, with emphasis on carry out.

I wish I could give this restaurant 10 stars out of 5 :) This is hands down THE best restaurant in Red Lodge, and for a very reasonable price. I am on a very strict grain-free and sugar-free diet (similar to Paleo) and have a hard time dining out. Mike and his staff, especially the kitchen manager Daylynn, were SO helpful in assisting me with what I could still eat there! They serve only fresh ingredients and everything is made from scratch so they know exactly what is in the food, a rarity somehow these days. They offer a "protein taco" served on cabbage instead of a tortilla, and you can get any of the meats and toppings in it. I am in love with the pastor (pork) protein taco with no crema (I can't have dairy either), and add avocados... wow, amazing. This is one of two restaurants in town that I trust to cater to my dietary needs, many places do not seem to have proper training on food intolerances, but Mas Taco is wonderful. I eat here as often as possible! Highly recommend!
